Silence

2017 single by Marshmello featuring Khalid

"Silence" is a song produced by American DJ and musician Marshmello featuring vocals from American singer-songwriter Khalid. Written by both, it was released by RCA Records on August 11, 2017.

The dance track peaked at number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as number 3 on the UK charts, his first song to chart on the latter.

Background

On August 1, 2017, Marshmello made a surprise performance at a Khalid concert, hinting at an upcoming collaboration. On August 7, 2017, Marshmello first teased the single release with a photo of him and Khalid, captioning the single's title and release date.

Critical reception

David Rishty of Billboard described the song as "a rumbling dance ballad that has the ingredients to take both acts to new heights in their flourishing careers". He opined that Khalid delivered "crooning, soulful vocals", while Marshmello's production is "vibrant" and "asserts simplicity, yet purpose". Erik of EDM Sauce called the song "an incredibly powerful track", and described Khalid's vocals as "booming and impressive". He wrote that "after the intense build up and lyrical perfection from Khalid we wanted an equally as impressive drop", but "we did not find it". Alex Ross of Vice called the song "a good Marshmello song", and wrote that Marshmello "cheated by getting Khalid to do the vocals". He thinks that it "sounds a bit like" Major...

Happier

2018 song by Marshmello and Bastille

"Happier" is a song by American DJ Marshmello featuring British indie pop band Bastille. Written by Marshmello, Smith, and Steve Mac, and produced by the former, it was released on August 16, 2018.

It reached number two on both the UK Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100 and is the highest-charting single for Marshmello in both the UK and the US. It is also Bastille's highest-charting single as well on both charts surpassing their 2013 single "Pompeii"'s number five peak on the Hot 100 and tying at its number two peak on the UK chart.

Composition

"Happier" is an upbeat pop song that draws elements from pop rock. Lyrically, the song tells "the tale of a love that's over before one party wants to accept it." Billboard's Kat Bein opined that it "sounds a little more like his radio-forward hits."

Music video

Three music videos were released to support the single. The initially released one was a simple lyric video. This was followed by a performance video featuring Marshmello playing guitar with the bandmembers of Bastille playing their own instruments and Dan Smith singing. At the very end, Smith low fives Marshmello.

Here With Me

2019 single by Marshmello ft. Chvrches

"Here with Me" is a song by American DJ Marshmello, featuring Scottish synthpop band Chvrches. It was released on March 8, 2019 alongside an animated lyric video.

The official music video was released on April 5, 2019.

Composition

"Here with Me" is composed in E♭ major. The song was called reminiscent of Marshmello's earlier electronic production work, with the opening being "markedly restrained" that "provides a rare chance for him to experiment with guitars." The instrumentation was also described as "acoustic guitars and EDM beats".

Critical reception

Stereogum called it "standard-issue dance-pop fluff, with a bit more of an emotional pull to it thanks to Mayberry's performance. It's the sort of song that you might forget about immediately after hearing."
