Formation and Horehound (2009)
When the Raconteurs were performing in Memphis, Tennessee, Jack White lost his voice and the band asked Alison Mosshart of the Kills with whom they were touring to fill in on some songs. She sang lead vocals on "Steady as She Goes" and "Salute Your Solution". White later asked her if she would record a song with him and Jack Lawrence. They met Dean Fertita at the studio and they ended up performing more than one song that night.
"The Dead Weather" didn't actually form, but more or less coalesced as a result of the creative directions in which each of its members were moving by late in 2008. From an impromptu jam, in early January 2009 at Jack White's Third Man studio in Nashville, the foursome found common ground and began writing, composing and laying down recordings 'on the fly'. The outcome was the band "The Dead Weather " and the album "Horehound", representing one of the brightest and most refreshing events in the musical history of 2009.
Alison 'VV' Mosshart, and still part of "The Kills" duo, provides lead vocals, backing guitar, percussion and her compositional style and delivery to many of the band's lyrics,

"Blue Blood Blues" is the second single to be taken from the album Sea of Cowards by the alternative rock group the Dead Weather. It was released digitally on June 25, 2010.
Music video
The video for "Blue Blood Blues" premiered on teamcoco.com, the official website of Jack White's friend Conan O'Brien, on June 24, 2010. The recording is an edited live performance from May 3, 2010, at Third Man Records. The style of the video is high contrast solarized black & white, similar to the video for "Fried My Little Brains" by the Kills, the other band of Dead Weather singer Alison Mosshart.
Triple-decker record release
In September 2010, Jack White announced a new format of vinyl record: a "triple-decker record" which is an A-side 12-inch record with a 7-inch record sandwiched inside containing a hidden track. To listen to the 7-inch record, the listener must crack the 12-inch record open with a knife into two circular plates, revealing the inner record which can then be played separately. "Blue Blood Blues" was the first song appearing in this format, in a limited release of 300 units that contained the song "I Feel Strange" inside. A record-pressing plant in Nashville, Tennessee, filled the custom order.
"Die by the Drop" is the first single from The Dead Weather's second album Sea of Cowards. It was released on March 30, 2010, in the United States and April 25 in the UK.
The single includes the B-side "Old Mary".
Reception
John Sakamoto for the Toronto Star said the song "sounds like it should weigh a tonne," with "relentless guitar riffs, throbbing drums, an insistent, plinking piano part, and very loud vocals by White and Alison Mosshart, who don't so much duet as shout at each other."
"Hang You from the Heavens" is the debut single by American alternative rock band the Dead Weather. It was released on March 11, 2009 and was backed with a cover of Gary Numan's "Are 'Friends' Electric?".
The single was released through iTunes and on a 7" vinyl limited to 150 copies, all of which were given to the crowd at the band's debut performance at the opening of the Third Man Records headquarters. The 7" was later released through their website, and in record stores.
Music video
A low budget music video was made in promotion of the single. The video was shot entirely in black and white and features the band members sitting inside of a photo booth in various sequence and combination. The band are all wearing black leather jackets and bring in various objects and clothes into the booth. One object brought in multiple times is a piece of cardboard with a circular hole which each member brings in at a certain point and stares into.
"I Cut Like a Buffalo" is the third track from the album Horehound, by the alternative rock group The Dead Weather in 2009. It was also released as the third single from the album.
"Treat Me Like Your Mother" is a single released by the alternative rock band The Dead Weather. It is the second single released off of the band's debut album Horehound.
The single was released on May 25, 2009, and released with the album on July 14, 2009.
