Early days (1977–1980)
Richard Butler stated that the Psychedelic Furs began rehearsing in his family's front room but were soon banished because of the noise. The band was initially called RKO, then Radio. They later vacillated between calling themselves the Europeans and the Psychedelic Furs, playing gigs under both names before permanently settling on the latter. The word psychedelic was chosen to separate the band from punk rockers who ostentatiously scorned the legacy of 1960s rock music.
UK post-punk band formed in 1977, London, by brothers Tim Butler and Richard Butler. The band released eight studio albums to date and have been produced by a variety of producers, such as Steve Lillywhite, Todd Rundgren, Keith Forsey, Chris Kimsey, David M. Allen and Stephen Street.
Their 1981 song "Pretty In Pink" was picked by director John Hughes (17) as the title of his 1986 teen movie and the re-made version of the song became their biggest hit until then. Other highlights of their catalogue are "Love My Way", "Sister Europe" and their biggest US hit "Heartbreak Beat".
In 1991 they went on hiatus while Richard Butler and Tim Butler launched a new group, Love Spit Love that lasted for two albums (1991 & 1997). In 1996, singer Richard Butler released his self-titled solo album.
The Furs reformed in 2000 for the release of a live album and, since then, the band continue to tour. They released a new studio album in 2020, the first since 1991.

"Love My Way" is a song by the English rock band the Psychedelic Furs. It was released in July 1982 as the first single from their third studio album Forever Now.
"Love My Way" was written by the four members of the group and produced by Todd Rundgren, who also played marimba on the song, and features backing vocals from Flo & Eddie. The song reached the top 10 of the charts in New Zealand, top 30 in Australia and the top 50 in the United Kingdom and United States.
Lyrics
The Psychedelic Furs' lead vocalist Richard Butler explained the meaning of the song in an interview with Creem magazine in 1983: "It's basically addressed to people who are fucked up about their sexuality, and says 'Don't worry about it.' It was originally written for gay people."
Release and reception
Released in 1982, "Love My Way" peaked at number nine in New Zealand, where it spent 21 weeks on the chart. The song peaked at number 42 in the UK and number 44 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. It also reached number 30 on the US Mainstream Rock chart and number 40 on the Dance Music/Club Play Singles chart.
"Pretty in Pink" is a song by the English band the Psychedelic Furs, originally released in 1981 as a single from the band's second album, Talk Talk Talk. The 1986 film was named after the song and a re-recorded version of the song was included on its soundtrack.
Composition
Lead singer Richard Butler said "Pretty in Pink" is about two women he knew while living in Muswell Hill in North London. One was a friend of his ex-girlfriend, and the other went to a pub he frequented. However, the Caroline mentioned in the lyrics is a made-up name, and the women are not high-school age, despite the film that was named after the song, causing some people to think so. "The song is about a girl who sleeps around a lot and thinks that she's popular because of it. It makes her feel empowered somehow and popular, and in fact, the people that she's sleeping with are laughing about her behind her back and talking about her," said Butler.
Release and critical reception
The original version of "Pretty in Pink" peaked at No. 43 on the UK singles chart in July 1981.
"All That Money Wants" is a song by the English rock band the Psychedelic Furs, released by Columbia Records in July 1988 as a single from the band's best-of compilation album All of This and Nothing. The B-side was "Birdland".
In the UK, the same single was released on Columbia's CBS label.
